This is a joint update from Nomadic Labs, TriliTech and Functori.
During continued testing of the Etherlink 7.0 (Ganesha) kernel, we have identified a security issue. We are asking bakers not to support this upgrade proposal, so that it does not activate on Etherlink Mainnet.
Etherlink Mainnet is not affected. It currently runs Etherlink 6.6, and the issue is in the 7.0 kernel, which has not been activated.
We are working on a corrected kernel, which will be submitted to Etherlink governance as a new proposal. We are deliberately withholding the technical details of the issue for now, and will publish a full description in due time.
What we are asking bakers to do
Etherlink’s governance does not allow a proposal to be downvoted during the Proposal period, and an upvote cannot be withdrawn once cast. Etherlink 7.0 will therefore move to the Promotion period on Friday 7 August, and that vote is the one that determines the outcome.
- Promotion period (slow governance period 41, from Friday 7 August ~07:52 UTC until ~23:52 UTC on Tuesday 11 August) — please vote “nay”.
To make sure Etherlink 7.0 is not adopted, more than 25% of the yea/nay votes cast need to be “nay”.
Bakers can vote in a few clicks with Etherlink’s governance explorer UI (https://governance.etherlink.com/), or using TezGov (https://gov.tez.capital/). It is also possible to vote using Octez CLI:
