Tezos bakers! The Proposal period for Farfadet, a 6th major kernel upgrade proposal for Etherlink mainnet, has started and we would like to count on your participation.
A Better, Faster, Sharper Etherlink
The Etherlink 6.0 (Farfadet) proposal brings up many improvements to the EVM-compatible layer of Tezos with a common theme: speed.
- Compatibility with EVM Osaka: Farfadet implements support for the Osaka EVM upgrade. Supporting the new EVM version right after the Fusaka Ethereum hardfork goes live on Ethereum mainnet showcases how we have continuously streamlined engineering processes to adopt new EVM features, and our dedication to keeping Etherlink’s EVM environment current, reliable, and ready for innovative projects.
- Increased capacity: Farfadet increases chain capacity from 14 Mgas/s to 27 Mgas/s. This means Etherlink mainnet will be able to handle spikes of activity above the 1,000 native transfers per second symbolic threshold. This is done without incrementing the base gas price, which will remain a thousandth of a mutez per gas unit as long as the chain does not process more than 13.5 MGas/s for an extended period of time.
- Unlocking Instant Confirmations: Etherlink 6.0 introduces instant confirmations, allowing users to know, within roughly 50 ms, whether their transaction will be included in the next block and what its receipt will be. If the kernel upgrade is successfully endorsed by the community in this governance process, we plan for the instant confirmations to be fully deployed on Etherlink mainnet by January 15. We believe this will provide a major boost for DeFi applications.

How to vote
Participating in Etherlink’s governance is simple. Bakers can submit their vote with the Octez CLI, Better Call Dev or by interacting with the governance contracts using the Etherlink Governance Explorer — it only takes a few clicks!
As a baker, you can also cast your votes using a voting key. This video guide shows you how to set it up and cast your first vote.
Using Octez client
To upvote Farfadet in the Proposal period, you can use the following Octez client command:
octez-client transfer 0 from <baking_address/voting_key> to KT1VZVNCNnhUp7s15d9RsdycP7C1iwYhAQ8r --entrypoint "upvote_proposal" --arg "0x0079e0f348b608ce486c9e5e1fdf84b650019922bf3383b562522c2c8f60a098da" --burn-cap 0.2
If the proposal is selected for the Promotion period, you’d then use the following command to vote “yea”:
octez-client transfer 0 from <baking_address/voting_key> to KT1VZVNCNnhUp7s15d9RsdycP7C1iwYhAQ8r \

- Select the currently active Slow governance period, where the Farfadet proposal has been injected.
- Click
Upvoteto upvote the proposal. - Sign the request with your wallet (either with the baking key or a voting key).
The proposal period runs about 50,400 layer 1 blocks or about 4.5 days. Proposals must gather support from at least 1% of the total voting power to move to the next phase.
Promotion Period
Should the Etherlink 6.0 (Farfadet) proposal gather enough support to advance to the next stage, you would need to cast your final vote once the promotion period starts. To vote in the promotion period:
