Tezos bakers: let’s get ready for Rio!
Tezos 18th protocol upgrade will activate on mainnet this Thursday ~10:36 am UTC, at the end of cycle 857 (that is, just after #8,767,488).
It’s time to do the homework and prepare our infra!
- Update all infra to Octez to v22.0 – this is the minimal version supporting Rio
- Set up DAL attester
- Launch both Quebec and Rio baker and accuser binaries
You can find more about Octez v22.0 in the announcement post.
Starting with Octez v22.0, all supported baker binaries need to be provided with either: a companion DAL attester node’s RPC address, using the
--dal-node
option; or, the --without-dal`
option. The baking software will not start if neither is provided.
After upgrading, please remember to have both Quebec and Rio bakers and accusers up and running well in advance of the activation block.
Verify that Rio baker and accuser are ready and waiting for Rio to start. This is visible in the logs as:
Node is bootstrapped.
Waiting for protocol 022-PsRiotum to start...
What’s coming with Rio:
- Adjusted rewards model: 10% of participation rewards are allocated to the Data Availability Layer
- 1-day cycles: faster changes for bakers, stakers, and delegators
- Lower tolerance for baker inactivity: improved network resilience
