When will garbage collection be fixed for full/rolling nodes?
Maybe some day…
Support for garbage collection of the Octez context is a top priority of the Tarides storage team for Q1 next year (in collaboration with Nomadic Labs). We’re currently laying the ground work for this feature by eliminating IO bottlenecks and reducing the load on the context index. This is proceeding as planned and we intend to ship & publicise our optimisations in the next few weeks.
For context, a GC-compatible operating mode for Octez was initially prototyped in 2020, but this was blocked by underlying performance limitations of the context implementation. Now that these limitations have been resolved, we can return to the GC prototyping phase. There are still some open design questions to resolve, but we hope to communicate more about our proposed design and its performance characteristics in the coming months.
Is it still on on track for Q1? @CraigFe
