Taquito v25.1.0-beta0: tz5 support and maintenance fixes - Call for testers

Today I released Taquito v25.1.0-beta0, adding tz5 / ML-DSA-44 support and fixing several issues with operation preparation, confirmation, fee estimation and metadata retrieval.

I continue to maintain Taquito independently, in my spare time, following the end of Tezos Foundation funding in January. It’s effectively a hobby project for me now, with work happening as time allows. Developers and applications still depend on it, and I want the improvements I make to remain available to everyone.

This release includes:

  • tz5 / ML-DSA-44 support: addresses, keys, signatures, Michelson encoding, local forging and signature verification, including importing Octez mdsk and encrypted mdesk keys. Coverage includes conformance tests against an isolated Octez node.
  • Operation confirmation fixes: finding operations that were already included before monitoring began, including when a wallet returns the operation hash after inclusion.
  • Reveal fee fixes: using the network’s advertised fee rates and avoiding double-counting reveal bytes in batch estimates.
  • Concurrent preparation fixes: preventing independent preparations from interfering with each other’s counter allocation.
  • Simulation recovery improvements: a bounded counter refresh for nonstandard RPC errors.
  • Michelson encoding and metadata fixes: preserving single-element lists and sets inside options, updating the default IPFS gateway and providing clearer metadata retrieval errors.

Several of these fixes address reports from testing against Tezos X Previewnet. Thanks to François Ajinka and everyone who provided reports and reproductions, and to Awea for the Michelson option encoding fix.

To try the beta:

npm install @taquito/taquito@25.1.0-beta0

Update the other Taquito monorepo packages your application uses to the same version. Applications with exact fee assertions should revalidate reveal and batch estimates.

Sending tz5 operations requires a network with tz5_account_enable enabled; this does not imply mainnet activation. Hardware and remote signer support, and mnemonic/HD derivation for tz5, are outside this addition.

The release notes include the full changes and compatibility details. Please report regressions on the issue tracker, including the network, RPC endpoint, reproduction steps and error details.

I plan to promote this beta to a final release next week, assuming no significant issues are found during the beta period. Testing and feedback from ecosystem teams are, as always, much appreciated. That shared effort is part of what makes open source work.

Taquito remains available through the existing @taquito/* packages, repository and documentation.
